South Dublin County Council is introducing a new advance credit system on a phased basis that will replace bin tags for domestic refuse collection. This new service will be available to all our customers by the end of 2009.

This is a new system that will make the service easier for everyone as well as making it more efficient. However, as with any new system that is being rolled out to so many customers there may well be teething difficulties at the start. We ask that customers bear with us so that we can all benefit from the new advantages this new system will offer.

The main change is that customers will not have to purchase a bin tag anymore – instead bin lift credit will be purchased in advance and this will allow the refuse truck to lift the bin.

There will be a new computer system on the Refuse Trucks that can identify and record the bin and deduct the cost of the lift from the customer’s Waste Charges Account. Under the new system a Waste Charges Card will be issued to every customer with which bin lift credit can be purchased in advance of having the bin collected. This will mean no more problems with stolen tags.

We are committed to making this new advance credit system work efficiently and with minimal disruption to our customers.
