Water Section
The Water Section in South Dublin County Council is responsible for the delivery of safe and potable water to over 3,750 businesses and 74,765 homes (census 2002) within the County. The treated water is fed to our Customers via service reservoirs located at Belgard, Peamount and Ballyboden through a water supply network comprising approx. 1,500km of water mains.
South Dublin County Council is not a water producer and purchases approximately 70,000m3/day of water from Dublin City Council, Fingal County Council and Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council via the Ballymore Eustace, Leixlip and Ballyboden Water Treatment Plants respectively.

Drainage
The Drainage Operations Section is based at Deansrath Depot, Clondalkin. This Section is responsible for the South Dublin County Council Drainage System which comprises approximately 1,200 km of foul and surface water public sewers.
The drainage system in most modern housing estates, comprise two separate systems - a foul drainage system and a surface water system. The foul drainage system is designed to collect wastewater not only from toilets but also from wash-hand basins, sinks, washing machines and dishwashers. Water Pollution
The SDCC Water Pollution Section oversees the protection of waters in South Dublin, whether rivers, streams or groundwater. Policy Programmes, local, national and European, are implemented to ensure that all waters within the County are maintained at a high standard and that appropriate measures are taken should any event arise to threaten their status.
